Spotlight on Student Research Poster Competition
Deadline for student poster submissions is Thursday April 20, 2017.
The Spotlight on Student Research Poster Event showcases original research by students at the Gillings School of Global Public Health. Each year, the event is held in conjunction with the annual Fred T. Foard Jr. Memorial Lecture. This year, the Foard Lecture will be held on April 27, 2017.
Since 2009, Research and Innovation Solutions and the UNC Gillings chapter of the Delta Omega Honorary Society in Public Health have partnered to nominate a student for the Delta Omega Student Poster Session at the American Public Health Association’s Annual Meeting and Exposition. The session will be held at the 145th APHA Annual Meeting from November 4-8, 2017 in Atlanta, GA. The student nominated by the UNC Gillings chapter of Delta Omega will receive $750 to attend APHA. In addition, if the nominated student’s abstract is also selected by the Delta Omega National Office, he/she will receive an additional $350 cash prize from Delta Omega and an invitation to present their poster the APHA Delta Omega Student Poster Session. UNC nominations for the Delta Omega Student Poster Session must be for original work that has not been previously presented.
In addition, one student will be awarded the 2017 Gillings Student Poster Award, which provides the awardee with $500 towards to attending a professional conference of the winner’s choice. Posters for the Gillings Student Poster Award may be on work that is both previously and never before presented.

Poster submissions should be sent electronically to Christin Daniels by no later than 5 pm on Thursday April 20, 2017.

Ms. Crane also presented her work at the 2015 Society for Behavioral Medicine in San Antonio, Texas.

2014 Gillings Student Poster Award: Luma Essaid, Nutrition

2014 Delta Omega Poster Award: Maya Nadimpalli, Environmental Sciences and Engineering
Poster Title: “Nasal carriage of antibiotic-resistant staphylococcus aureus among livestock workers and household members in North Carolina”
Maya is also a 2014 recipient of a 2014 Dennis and Mireille Gillings Global Public Health Fellowship and is studying with Didier Guillemot at Institut Pasteur in Paris.
