Required training for faculty members aims to secure student records
August 24, 2010 | |
Members of the UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health teaching faculty are now required to take training to help maintain the privacy of their students’ educational records.
The ConnectCarolina training team, in conjunction with the Office of the University Registrar, has created an online training module on the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), the federal law that governs records security. FERPA training is required for all new PeopleSoft users. Oracle’s PeopleSoft is a software used for applications, grading and other student records.
The learning module and the required 10-question quiz can be completed in approximately 30 minutes. Passing the quiz requires a score of 100 percent; the quiz may be taken as many times as necessary to achieve a passing score.
FERPA training may be taken at any time through the Blackboard Learning Management System by logging in with an Onyen and password. The access code for the FERPA training module is RAM@UNC.
FERPA training reflects the University’s commitment to providing secure access to and maintaining the confidentiality of student records.
