| CHAPEL HILL – The Partners in Public Health Distinguished Group Award was presented to the NC Institute for Public Health at the NC Public Health Association Annual Conference in Asheville, October 1, 2009.
This award was established in 1998 to recognize organizations that have made significant contributions to public health in North Carolina.
Dennis Harrington of the NC Division of Public Health read the following citation and presented the award to Dr. Ed Baker, director.
For reaching public health professionals in all one hundred North Carolina counties with training and continuing education programs;
For offering hundreds of courses and workshops each year in various competencies and emerging issues;
For training approximately twenty thousand adults in North Carolina each year;
For providing continuing education services to neighboring states, the nation, and the world;
For being an active participant in and supporter of the North Carolina Public Health Association;
For partnering with the North Carolina Division of Public Health to enhance response and service delivery of public health programs;
And for being instrumental in organizing and coordinating state accreditation of local health departments and the Division of Public Health;
For these and other significant contributions in providing leadership and support of Public Health, the North Carolina Public Health Association presents the North Carolina Institute for Public Health of the UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health with the 2009 Partners in Public Health Distinguished Group Award.
The Institute is in its 10th year as a teaching, consulting, and research link between the Gillings School of Global Public Health and those in public health practice.
