Research activities

I have been statistical co-investigator of several cardiovascular health trials in adults and in children, and more recently consultant to several community-based participatory research studies focusing on obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular, cancer and other diseases. Currently I am the PI for the Study of Latino Youth, a cross-sectional look at acculturation and cardiometabolic risk factors in children 8-16 whose parents are participating in the longitudinal Hispanic Community Health Study.  I serve as member of the Board of Scientific Counselors of the National Center for Injury Prevention and Control at the CDC and as chair of the Multinational Data and Safety Monitoring Board of the NIAID Division of AIDS at NIH. I also hold visiting faculty appointments at the University of Valparaiso (Chile), at the University of Chile (Santiago) and at the University of South Africa (Johannesburg).  I am currently co-Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Injury Control & Safety Promotion, and was elected member of the International Statistical Institute. I will be a Fulbright Scholar in Chile in 2014-2015.
