Rebecca Wells, PhD
About
Dr. Wells served on the Health Policy and Management faculty full time for seven years. Since then, she has continued to collaborate with UNC faculty on projects related to medical homes, case management, and behavioral health care. Dr. Wells currently serves on the UNC-based Workforce Development Center led by Dorothy Cilenti; examines how community collaboration affects factors contributing to diabetes; and assesses an innovative case management program for sobering center clients. She recently evaluated Texas’s $11 billion Medicaid 1115(a) waiver value-based payment program for that state.
More generally, Rebecca tends to focus on inter- and intra-organizational cooperation as means of building health and human service capacity. She has published in Health Services Research, Medical Care, Medical Care Research & Review, and Social Science & Medicine, among other journals. Professional recognitions include the John D. Thompson Young Investigators Award and the American Sociological Association Mental Health Section’s Best Paper Award.
While in North Carolina, Rebecca co-chaired the North Carolina Collaborative for Children, Youth, and Families, a statewide group promoting implementation of system of care practices. She is also the past chair of the Academy of Management Health Care Management Division.
