Research activities

Nutrition policy and dietary pattern trends and determinants, including the measurement of diet quality. In addition to participation in population-based research designed to identify diet and disease associations, her research has focused on examination of determinants of dietary intake and dietary trends. Her current activities involve investigation of women’s health and aging and lifestyle practices such as use of dietary supplements. Of additional interest are the characterization of the changing roles of employment, income and education on at-home and away-from-home patterns of eating, food and food-group selections and examination of any subsequent nutritional implications. She is interested in examining the extent to which diet-health perceptions, attitudes and knowledge of food composition influence food choices. Dr. Haines’ research is designed to provide information that can be used by policymakers to better target nutrition interventions and to contribute to the development of theory informed nutrition interventions at the individual, organizational and community levels.
