About

Karen Strazza, MPH, has more than 25 years of experience in implementing and evaluating national, state and local public health initiatives to address chronic disease, food insecurity, health insurance coverage and injury and violence among those most disproportionately affected. She currently works with RTI International as a public health analyst in the Community Health Research Division. Her key areas of expertise include community and health-related intervention and evaluation planning, implementation and the application of mixed methods and community-based participatory research. She has led and participated on multidisciplinary teams that assess the implementation and impact of efforts of several CDC funded initiatives including the National Diabetes Prevention Program, the Sodium Reduction in Communities Program, the Paul Coverdell National Acute Stroke Program and Communities Putting Prevention to Work Program. She has also developed and implemented training and technical assistance efforts to improve capacity of state and local grantees of federal public health initiatives including the Healthy Kids Outreach and Enrollment Cooperative Agreement Program, the National Diabetes Prevention Program and the Sodium Reduction in Communities Program. She recently served as Associate Project Director for the CDC funded evaluation of the National Diabetes Prevention Program in vulnerable communities and Project Director for the New York State Health Department’s evaluation of system challenges to implementing the National Diabetes Prevention Program in the Bronx. Currently she serves as Project Director for the CDC funded Sodium Reduction in Communities Program Evaluation and for the Center for Medicare Services’ special study on successful strategies for enrolling beneficiaries in the Medicare Diabetes Prevention Program.
