About

Julie MacMillan is the managing director of Research, Innovation and Global Solutions at the UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health. The office encompasses these complementary enterprises: the program funded by the Gillings gift (including Gillings Innovation Labs), research support services, promotion of innovation and entrepreneurship at the school, and global health. During her years at the school, MacMillan also has held interim positions in Advancement, the Dean’s Office, and the Gillings Global Gateway™.

MacMillan worked at Quintiles from 1988 until 2004, initially as a biostatistician, then as senior vice president of corporate administration at the company’s headquarters, and finally as interim president of the North American Clinical Development Services Division at Quintiles, Inc. Earlier in her career, she was a biostatistician at Duke University Medical Center and at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation. She received a bachelor's degree in biology from Wellesley College and a master’s degree in biostatistics from UNC's public health school.
