José Belizan, MD, PhD

About

Dr. Belizan's major research and training focus is on evidence-based medicine, randomized controlled trials and implementation science, with a specialization in maternal health and its effect on the progeny. He runs many collaborative randomized clinical trials showing the efficacy of interventions for maternal and neonatal care. These trials involve the collaboration of researchers form many countries, including Latin American, African and Asian sites.

He has been an overseas mentor for more than 10 years via various NIH-funded grants. He is the co-director of the Fogarty International Clinical Research Fellows site in Argentina, which offers one-year mentored clinical research training experience for doctoral students and post-doctoral candidates in health-related professions from the U.S. To date, he has hosted two scholars and nine fellows at IECS in association with the program. Additionally, he has hosted 12 scholars via the MHIRT program.

Dr. Belizan holds an MD, two PhDs (in reproductive biology and medicine), an MSc in epidemiology and an OB/GYN certification.
