Research activities

Dr. Dodds’ interests are in nutrition policy, leadership development and community-based nutrition interventions. She is also co-director of the Carolina Community Health Scholar Program. She has developed nutrition services in adolescent health, pediatric nutrition, dietetic education and national policy development. Dr. Dodds served as the director of the Bureau of Nutrition of New York State, where she worked on the implementation of the NY State Five Year Plan of the Food and Nutrition Policy Council. She has publications in the areas of dietary guidance, graduate public health nutrition education, nutrition surveillance and program implementation. Dr. Dodds teaches courses in program planning and evaluation and maternal and child health. Dr. Dodds has served as President of the Society for Nutrition Education, President of the Association of Faculties of Graduate Programs in Public Health Nutrition, on the Committee on the Implementation of the Dietary Guidelines for the Food and Nutrition Board of the National Academy of Sciences, Institute of Medicine and has chaired the Subcommittee of Health Promotion and Disease Prevention of the North Carolina Institute’s Child Health Task Force.
