Research activities

Dr. Lamichhane has knowledge and experience in the field of chronic disease epidemiology. Dr. Lamichhane’s work focuses on epidemiology of diabetes, obesity and cardiovascular disease (CVD), with a particular interest in exploring how individual and environmental/contextual factors contribute to specific health outcomes and health disparities. Over past several years, Dr. Lamichhane has been involved in research exploring etiology of type 1 and type 2 diabetes in youth in SEARCH for Diabetes in Youth study. She also has enormous experience in spatial and multilevel analysis, and geographic information systems through her work exploring the influence of neighborhood socio-economic correlates including built nutritional environment on pediatric diabetes, obesity and other related health outcomes. In one of her current research project, Dr. Lamichhane is exploring the role of nutritional factors in the progression of insulin secretion defects and the presence of CVD risk factors in youth with diabetes. Specifically, she is interested in identifying dietary pattern associated with cardiovascular disease risk profile and exploring whether the identified pattern influences subclinical CVD outcomes longitudinally.
