President Bush names UNC alumnus as special assistant for economic policy

CHAPEL HILL — President George W. Bush has named Roy Ramthun, an alumnus of the UNC School of Public Health, as special assistant to the President for Economic Policy, the White House announced today. Ramthun will assume the health policy position as a member of the National Economic Council staff.Ranthum received his master’s degree in Public Health from UNC in 1987. He has served at the Department of the Treasury as senior advisor to the Secretary for Health Initiatives since 2003. From 1996 through 2003, he held various positions at Humana, Inc. From 1990 to 1995, he was a professional staff member for the Senate Finance Committee, where he was responsible for Medicaid, long-term care insurance, health care reform and maternal and child health. Earlier, he also worked in the Health Care Financing Administration at the Department of Health and Human Services.
