On April 8, 2004, the Department was pleased to announce many awards. Students Emily Evens, Susan Marshall, Erica Nybro, and Allison Lipscomb were inducted into Delta Omega, the Public Health Honorary Society, as was alumna Krissy Simeonsson. Erin McClain received the Delta Omega Award for academic excellence, and Joy Noel Baumgartner was recognized with the Delta Omega Service award. Dania Ermentrout was inducted into the Frank Porter Graham Honor Society and is the recipient of a LEND summer fellowship. Anna Kole is the recipient of a FLAS fellowship for foreign language study. Jessica Edwards, Anjel Vahratian, and Andrea Ireland were recognized by the Graduate School as recipients of external funding for dissertation research, and Kim Cobb received an honorable mention Impact Award for dissertation support.Finally, the Department was delighted to recognize Mary D. Patterson (’89) as the recipient of the 2004 Chipman Award for service and leadership in maternal and child health. Mary, who lives on the west coast, was unable to be present at the awards ceremony. Instead, Dr. Arden Miller, former Chair of MCH and Mary’s advisor, read her prepared statement.
