Maternal and child health project receives national health information award

The North Carolina Child Care Health and Safety Resource Center, a program directed by Jonathan Kotch, MD, through the UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health’s Department of Maternal and Child Health, has been recognized by the 17th annual National Health Information Awards℠ program. The resource center promotes safe and healthy environments for children in child care settings.
The center’s Bulletin, funded by the N.C. Department of Health and Human Services’ divisions of child development and public health, received a bronze award for providing information about health promotion and disease and injury prevention.
Kotch, the Carol Remmer Angle Endowed Professor of Children’s Environmental Health in UNC’s maternal and child health department, commended the work of center leaders Debra Garrett, Jackie Quirk (publication editor and project coordinator), Jeannie Reardon, and publication contributors Lucretia Dickson, Lauren Payne and Suzanne Todd.
“The N.C. Child Care Health and Safety Resource Center provides an invaluable service to children and families who use out-of-home child care and to early childhood educators across the state,” Kotch said. “The newsletter that won this award is a model for the nation.”
The awards program, coordinated by the National Health Information Resource Center, a clearinghouse for consumer health information programs and materials in the U.S., assigns gold, silver, bronze and merit awards based on selection by a panel of health-information experts in medicine, education, communication, government and nonprofit organizations.
