Jeffries receives honorary doctorate from Florida college

Eckerd College, in St. Petersburg, Fla., has conferred an honorary Doctor of Science degree upon Harvey E. Jeffries, PhD, leading atmospheric chemist and professor of environmental sciences and engineering in the School of Public Health. Jeffries graduated from Eckerd, then called Florida Presbyterian College, in 1964 with a Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry. He has been a member of the faculty of the Department of Environmental Sciences and Engineering since 1971 and a tenured professor since 1983. His research on ozone is instrumental to policy makers working to control air pollution. Jeffries received the honor at Eckerd College’s 44th commencement ceremony on May 20.
