Dr. Jennifer Horney

Jennifer Horney, PhD, CPH, has been asked to join a team of experts to support the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s response to the Deepwater Horizon oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.

Horney is research assistant professor of epidemiology at UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health and assistant director of the N.C. Institute for Public Health’s N.C. Center for Public Health Preparedness and N.C. Preparedness and Emergency Response Research Center at the School. She has conducted extensive research on how people react to disasters and emergency preparedness programs.

CDC is reaching out to experts in various environmental and disaster management fields to bring the best science possible to its immediate response activities in the Gulf Coast region.

These “scientific advisers” may be asked to comment on public health issues related to the short- and intermediate-term response effort and provide input that complements efforts by CDC’s incident management system.
