The more than 2,000 health behavior alumni have connections with thousands of employers. Many graduates stay in contact with others in their graduating classes and enjoy connecting with new graduates.

Annual Career Networking Event

On February 8, the annual alumni-sponsored networking event brought together approximately 30 second-year MPH students and approximately a dozen alumni from the Department of Health Behavior. A rapid-fire question and answer feature, which was added to the traditional agenda of panel sessions and speed networking, gave more opportunities for students to get the advice they were seeking.

The department and students appreciate the alumni who generously share their experience each year.  Alumni volunteering this year included, Andrew Amolegbe, Betsy Barton, Cherese Beatty, Mel Downey-Piper, Angela Hensel, Chip Hughes, Michelle Manning, Ingrid Morris, Charla Hodges Rios, Doug Rupert, Yael Symes, Annie Thronhill, Katherine Turner, Lechelle Wardell, Michael Zelek. We loved seeing everyone and missed those who were unable to attend.

2018 Survey

In September 2018, we asked alumni to indicate their level of interest on a list of public health issues.

Top Interests

Health equity, minority health and eliminating disparities, health communication, policy, and community-based participatory research were the issues most frequently rated as either extremely interesting or very interesting. Download the results.

Social Events

The health behavior social at APHA draws a crowd every year and our local alumni host several socials every year. But, we can only invite you to social if we know where you are and have your email address. Please update your information so we can find you!

Connect with Alumni

Alumni tell the department that they are happy – even flattered – to hear from other alumni, willing to help graduating students with a job search and interested in meeting alumni who live or work near them. Email is the best way to contact them.

Find Alumni

Most recent graduates are on LinkedIn and a message generated in LinkedIn will go to the email address they have listed.

Start with a search for alumni on LinkedIn.   Find the UNC at Chapel Hill school page. Click “see alumni” and  then search for “public health” or “health behavior.”  From there you can narrow the search for location, employer or industry.  You can email individuals from their LinkedIn page.
