Carolyn Tucker Halpern, PhD, associate professor in the UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health’s Department of Maternal and Child Health, has received a five-year, $1.6 million grant from the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD). Halpern’s study, “Sexual Behavior Trajectories from Adolescence to Adulthood,” will use data from the National Longitudinal Study of Adolescent Health project.
Her research will characterize the sexual experiences of individuals as they move from early adolescence into adulthood, and it examine interactions of biological characteristics, psychological factors, and life experiences as they contribute to sexual trajectories across the life course.
The project aims to provide evidence to guide the development of public health policy and programs.
Co-investigators from the UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health include Amy Herring, ScD, associate professor, and Chirayath Suchindran, PhD, professor, both in the Department of Biostatistics.
The grant includes a subcontract to Denise Hallfors in the Pacific Institute for Research and Evaluation (PIRE).
