Dr. Speizer is a demographer and evaluator who focuses her research on the evaluation of family planning and adolescent reproductive health programs around the world. She has led numerous evaluation projects in sub-Saharan Africa, including the evaluation of the U.S. Government’s Abstinence and Be Faithful for Youth (ABY) programs in five countries, a process evaluation of youth programs in Mozambique, and the evaluation of a youth center in Lome, Togo.

She currently serves as Co-Principal Investigator and Technical Deputy Director on the Measurement, Learning & Evaluation project, which will evaluate urban family planning programs in Nigeria, Kenya, Senegal and Uttar Pradesh, India. The project, funded for six years by the Gates Foundation, hopes to improve reproductive health among the urban poor in sub-Saharan Africa and south Asia.

Additionally, Dr. Speizer has played a leadership role in studying the meaning and measurement of unintended pregnancy and its relationship to the determinants of family planning program success. She has also led innovative work which examines the role of violence norms and experiences at the community level on youth reproductive health behaviors. Dr. Speizer has been published in over 70 peer-review publications.
