Students, faculty members and other friends of the UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health donned their fanciest global costumes on Feb. 11 to raise more than $1,500 for Doctors Without Borders’ Haiti earthquake relief efforts. About 125 people attended the third annual “Fashion Show Your Love,” sponsored by the School’s Student Global Health Committee. The event featured music, food, a silent auction, and about 25 volunteer models on the red-carpet runway.
“The fashion show is a wonderful opportunity to showcase the diversity of the School and the global reach of our programs and research, all while having some fun,” said Juliana Thornton, master’s student in maternal and child health and one of the organizers of the event. “It is also a great opportunity to raise money and awareness for organizations working in global health,” she said.
Other student organizers included Daniel Cothran, master’s student in health behavior and health education, and Hannah Spector, Anna Freeman, Sarah Kim, Jennifer Price, Meredith Kimball, Natalie Pritchett, James Tonthat and Joshua Murphey.
Local merchants who contributed to the event include AVEDA Institute, Mediterranean Deli, Mez Restaurant and Vimala’s Curryblossom Café.
