Glenn tapped to head External Affairs

Peggy Dean Glenn joins the UNC School of Public Health as Associate Dean for External Affairs, beginning Dec. 1.

Ms. Glenn brings more than 20 years’ development experience to UNC. She has been an Associate Dean at Duke’s Nicholas School of the Environment for the past eight years, leading the School’s $60 million campaign, which ultimately raised $137 million, 229% of goal.

Before joining Duke, she was Regional Director of Development for The Nature Conservancy in Chapel Hill for seven years, where she oversaw the Conservancy’s Last Great Places campaign in the south. Previously, she was president of a New York-based consulting firm.

“Peggy is well-grounded in public health issues,” said Dean Barbara K. Rimer. “At the Nicholas School, she has been actively engaged in fundraising related to water quality, environmentally-induced disease and the health implications of climate change. Not only is Peggy well positioned for her new role at UNC, she is also a Carolina parent and knows firsthand the role we play in North Carolina and the world.”

Glenn replaces Julie MacMillan, who served as Interim Associate Dean for External Affairs for the past eight months.

“Julie’s loyalty and dedication to the School are unsurpassed,” Rimer said. “Even more, her incisive analysis, quick study and ability to listen and synthesize a lot of information are skills from which we have benefited greatly. We are grateful also to Julie for her generosity to the School. Julie has agreed to remain for a while to smooth the transition, and we hope to interest her in taking on new challenges here. We also are grateful to the External Affairs team. It is a wonderful group.”
