Epidemiology Alumni

Dear Fellow Alumni,

We would first like to thank Elizabeth Hodgson and Thao Vo for their outstanding work as your alumni representatives for the Epidemiology chapter of the Gillings Alumni Association. As we take over leadership, we hope to continue the work they did to promote communication and to strengthen connections between alumni and the department.

We are both currently postdoctoral trainees at the National Institutes of Environmental Health Sciences in Research Triangle Park. Our proximity to campus makes it easy for us to maintain a strong relationship with the Department and our many fellow alumni who have remained in the triangle area.

In September 2016, we awarded the H.A. Tyroler Distinguished Alumni award to Dr. Robert Dittus of Vanderbilt University (MPH ‘84). This award is given once a year to an alumnus who has had a substantial impact on the field of epidemiology. The Alumni Association also sponsors the Kaplan Student Publication Award for the best student publication of the year.

We are also hoping to host some events to foster relationships between current or prospective students and alumni, including a career panel and a networking event in conjunction with admitted students day in the spring. We also encourage you to familiarize yourself with the online community Gillings Well Connected for updates from the Gillings School of Global Public Health.

We are updating our alumni listservs to better unite our community and help notify you of important departmental events and opportunities, including the department’s upcoming accreditation and review. Please sign up by following this link: http://eepurl.com/czXrnH

Please let us know what issues and concerns are important to you. We value your feedback and look forward to representing you.

Sincerely,

Katie O’Brien (MSPH, 2010, PhD 2013)
