Department Names 2006 Award Winners
(Chapel Hill, NC) — The Department of Health Policy and Administration announced the winners of its annual departmental awards recently in a ceremony at the Carolina Inn. The awards are given annually to those individuals who have made a significant contribution to the department in the past academic year. In addition to the awards described below, the department also recognized Delta Omega award recipients, in addition to graduate and undergraduate honors award recipients.
Undergraduate Awards Jennifer Marie Cox and J. Bryan Mallory were named the recipients of the 2006 Foster G. McGaw Scholarship for outstanding first-year undergraduates.
Niti Seth received the 2006 Dixon Award for Excellence in Education and Service as the undergraduate student who best exemplifies the integration of academic and experience-based learning.
Master’s Awards Preston Hammock was named the Benjamin Rodin Scholarship award winner for 2006. Elizabeth Hackney, Emily Keyes and Molly King were named the AUPH/McGaw Scholars for 2006. The Jean G. Yates Health Policy Award was given to Catherine Coleman. Larry Clark was presented with the Jacob Koomen Public Health Practice Award for his public health service as a senior policy analyst and legal counsel to the Democratic Whip of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives.
The Richard L. Davis Healthcare Management Scholarship award winner was Christie Marzahn. Doctoral Awards Virginia Wang and Asheley Skinner received the Harry T. Phillips Award for Outstanding Teaching by a Doctoral Student as a result of a new course they designed for the DrPH program.
The Jean G. Yates Outstanding Doctoral Student Award was given to Jeongyoung Park. Other Awards The Mary Thompson Award for Outstanding Achievement was given to Melanie Studer. Paul Jellinek received the Health Policy and Administration Alumni Leadership Award.
The 2006 Ed McCauley Scholarship in Healthcare Leadership award recipient was Jennifer Casey.
