Department earns top ranking from Modern Healthcare

Modern Healthcare reported the 2012 rankings of top business graduate schools for physician executives in its June 18 issue. UNC’s Department of Health Policy and Management jumped to the number one position, sharing the top spot with Trinity University.
Programs are ranked on five factors – length of program; cost of total tuition; number of days students must spend on campus; age of each program in years; and number of total graduates. UNC has been ranked in the top three schools for the past several years.

“We are delighted and honored with the Modern Healthcare rankings this year,” said Peggy Leatt, PhD, professor and chair of the health policy and management department. “Jim Porto and the rest of the faculty have worked hard to make this program first-class. The program uses modern technology and curricula innovations. We have outstanding students enrolled.” The executive Master of Public Health program recently was restructured to make the program two years, rather than 33 months, long. The redesign makes the program more competitive in the health-care marketplace and enables the course of study to focus on the unique skill sets necessary to navigate and succeed in that marketplace. Each course builds on concepts learned in prior terms and focuses on improving decision making and leadership skills.
