David Leith wins 2005 Distinguished Teaching Award for Post-Baccalaureate Instruction

The Department of Environmental Sciences and Engineering is extremely pleased to announce Professor David Leith is the recipient of a 2005 Distinguished Teaching Award for Post-Baccalaureate Instruction*. The committee was greatly impressed by the abundant evidence they found for his outstanding contributions to post-baccalaureate teaching on campus. Both students and faculty colleagues were enthusiastic in their praise of his commitment to the highest standards of teaching. The committee praised him for providing his students with a rich, supportive environment for higher learning and being an exceptionally positive role model for their own career.Dr. Leith was recognized on Thursday, February 3 during the half-time ceremony at the UNC-State men s basketball game in the Dean E. Smith Center and will receive his certificate and monetary prize at the awards banquet to be held at the Carolina Club on April 12, 2005.
*The Distinguished Teaching Awards for Post-Baccalaureate Instruction was first given by the University in 1995 to recognize the important role of post-baccalaureate teaching. Each of the four winners receives a one-time stipend of $5,000 and a framed citation. Nominations are open to all members of the UNC community including faculty, staff, students, alumni and administrators. The s*election procedure* began by screening applicants and selecting finalists. The finalists were then screened through interviews with deans or department chairs, reading of student evaluations, and telephone interviews of randomly selected students.
