On Wednesday, August 30, Dr. Ilona Jaspers, Professor in the UNC Department of Pediatrics, Director of the Curriculum in Toxicology and the Deputy Director of the UNC Center for Environmental Medicine Asthma and Lung Biology will provide an update on current e-cigarette research at the UNC Institute for the Environment. Jaspers specializes in the effects of ambient air pollutants on respiratory immune disfunction and has established several human in vitro and clinical in vivo models to determine the adverse health effects induced by pollutant exposures. In her role as deputy director of the Center for Environmental Medicine, Asthma and Lung Biology, Jaspers collaborates extensively with investigators from UNC and the U.S. Environmental Protection agency to conduct translational studies related to air pollution health effects. She has also recently completed research showing how the chemicals in e-cigarettes can change immune responses in our airways.

Jaspers will present at the UNC Institute for the Environment (100 Europa Drive, Chapel Hill, suite 490) on Wednesday, August 30, at 11:30am. Please email Megan Rodgers at merodgers@unc.edu to RSVP.
