Water Institute at UNC designated as PAHO/WHO Collaborating Center for Water and Sanitation

September 7, 2017 The Water Institute at UNC, based in the Gillings School and directed by Dr. Jamie Bartram, has been designated as a Pan American Health Organization/World Health Organization (PAHO/WHO) Collaborating Center for Water and Sanitation.

Gillings Merit Scholars and Gillings Dissertation Awards announced

August 29, 2017 Seventeen students were selected as recipients of Gillings Merit Scholarships or Gillings Dissertation Awards for the 2017-2018 academic year. The award funds, established in 2010 to help the Gillings School recruit and support graduate students with exceptional promise and potential, were made possible through the $50 million Gillings gift and are administered through the Gillings School’s Research, Innovation and Global Solutions office.

PEPFAR ambassador recognizes PHLP’s Kumar for work on data system

August 28, 2017 Manish Kumar, adjunct assistant professor in the Public Health Leadership Program, received a certificate of appreciation from Ambassador Deborah Birxin in recognition of his contributions to the development and maintenance of the data system used by the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief.

Turpin wins ACS award for creative advances in science and technology

August 23, 2017 Dr. Barbara Turpin has been honored with the 2017 American Chemical Society (ACS) Award for Creative Advances in Environmental Sciences and Technology. She will be recognized at the ACS conference in New Orleans next March.

Meier wins ‘Outstanding Alumnus’ award from Columbia

August 22, 2017 Dr. Benjamin Meier, adjunct assistant professor in health policy and management, has received an outstanding alumnus award from Columbia University’s Mailman School of Public Health.

Myers named RWJF Health Policy Fellow

August 15, 2017 Dr. Allison E. Myers, alumna and adjunct assistant professor of health behavior, has been named a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Health Policy Fellow. The fellowship will allow Myers to work in Washington, D.C., for a one-year period beginning Sept. 1 and to participate in federal policy processes.
