Cynthia M. Bulik, PhD, Jordan Distinguished Professor of psychiatry, professor of nutrition and director of the Eating Disorders Program at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, will discuss how science has identified parts of genes that harbor risk factors at this month’s Current Science Forum on Thursday (Sept. 4). The free public presentation will begin at 7 p.m. at the Morehead Planetarium and Science Center. “Disordered Eating: Genes and Environment” will explain the many different risk factors for anorexia or bulimia nervosa. A roundtable format will allow for discussion of personal theories and new considerations on these serious diseases. Bulik also will share new genetic research findings and how they could affect treatment of current patients, detection and future prevention of these diseases. The planetarium is located at 250 E. Franklin Street on the Carolina campus. For more information, visit www.moreheadplanetarium.org or call Guest Relations at (919) 962-1236.
