You think BINGO is reserved for the old and weary? Not around here! On Wednesday, September 23, 2009, 85 young and eager public health students met and mingled at the 3rd annual Fall SPH BINGO Night! The night of fun kicked off at 5:30 pm with scrumptious pizza, thirst-quenching drinks and delectable desserts provided courtesy of The Office of Student Affairs. By 6 pm, once the masses were fed, the boards and chips were handed out, and the rules were grounded by Dean Mebane, the competition was underway! <p”> During each of the 12 approximately five-minute rounds, players became winners by shaping their chips into the desired design: the typical “X” or “T”. As time went on, the rounds became longer and the winning criteria more intense. By 7:20 pm, it was announced that the person who covers his or her entire board first wins a $25 gift certificate from Chapel Hill Sportswear AND a $25 gift certificate from Top of the Hill! The lucky winner? Danielle Huff, a master’s student in the Nutrition Department!

Other prizes awarded during the games included meal and gift certificates to popular Chapel Hill restaurants, t-shirts from popular retailers such as Johnny T-shirt, UNC paraphernalia, and gourmet cupcakes from Bliss Bakery. The top prize, a messenger bag from Toots & Magoo valued at $60, was awarded to Zachary Robbins, a master’s student in the Environmental Sciences and Engineering department, for the feat of covering 2 entire boards! The night proved to be a success with great prizes awarded and great friends made! <p”> A special thanks to all the organizations who donated the fabulous prizes: <p”>
