Bartram elected to NSF International Council of Public Health Consultants

University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill professor Jamie Bartram, PhD, has been elected to serve on NSF International’s Council of Public Health Consultants, which advises NSF on the development of public health and environmental health initiatives. The organization says that Bartram has significant expertise in water quality, dietary supplements and environmental health and will support NSF’s mission in protecting and improving public health. Bartram, professor of environmental sciences and engineering in the UNC Gillings School of Global Health, and director of The Water Institute at UNC, is a British native who has 28 years of environmental and water sanitation experience working in more than 50 countries. Bartram has conducted extensive research in the fields of sanitation, water treatment and environmental policy at the World Health Organization and the University of Surrey. A distinguished author and Fellow of the Royal Society of Public Health, Bartram serves as a member of the International Water Association. He also served as the first chair of UN-Water, responsible for ensuring coherence and coordination in UN system actions related to water. Bartram will launch the new Water Institute at UNC at the “Water and Health: Where Science Meets Policy Conference” in Chapel Hill Oct. 25-26.
