Annual reports showcase School’s research and service achievements

| The School of Public Health’s Office of Research and North Carolina Institute for Public Health have recently released annual reports, showcasing the School’s research and service activities across our state and nation and around the world.
The Office of Research report, available as a PDF at www.sph.unc.edu/research/our_research_and_its_impact.html, includes several stories that highlight the successes of 2006 and illustrate the ways School of Public Health researchers are making a difference. The stories, charts, graphs, and lists within its pages demonstrate the School’s commitment to research, accomplishments and impacts. “This past year, the dedicated faculty, staff and research students here at the School have made tremendous progress in research,” Steven Zeisel, associate dean for research, says in the report. “Our researchers have contributed an amazing array of investigations, analyses, designs services and tools . . . conducting research not only in North Carolina, but also in Alaska and Zambia, truly working from A to Z.” The North Carolina Institute for Public Health report, available as a PDF at www.sph.unc.edu/nciph, reviews last year’s highlights and achievements, such as continuing education and executive education programs, consultation and evaluation services, and programs to assist communities with emerging issues.

“Through partnerships with our friends and colleagues in North Carolina, with foundations and federal agencies, and of course with the School’s faculty and staff, the Institute has accomplished a great deal and has experienced a remarkable growth of nearly 20 percent last year,” according to a letter in the report from Institute Director Edward L. Baker Jr. The North Carolina Institute for Public Health is the service and outreach arm of the School of Public Health. A nationally recognized leader in public health education and consulting, the Institute creates new service models that benefit both public health practitioners and the public’s health. The Office of Research enhances the School’s research enterprise by developing initiatives and services to support faculty, staff and students so that the School can continue as a world leader in public health research.
