Dr. Litaker is Supervisory Ecologist, Center for Coastal Fisheries and Habitat Research. National Ocean Service, National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration, Beaufort, NC. He is an expert in molecular techniques in microbial ecology.

He was the Director of the Carolina Workshops in Molecular Biology and Biotechnology in the UNC-CH School of Medicine from 1991-2002.
