Michelle Erin Johnson
Michelle joined the Research and Innovation Solutions team in Fall 2015. Prior to joining UNC, she served as a licensing associate in the technology transfer office at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, where she managed intellectual property and licenses for research discoveries, negotiated a wide-range of industry collaborations, and conducted business development activities for a group of principal investigators and center directors. Michelle also spent several years in the research compliance office at Boston University/Boston University Medical Center, where she supported the conflict of interest and responsible conduct of research programs.
Michelle's role in RIS is to manage and provide support for all programs funded by the Gillings Gift (including the Gillings Innovation Labs and several student award programs), to provide school innovators and entrepreneurs with guidance and connections to translate their ideas into public health solutions, to provide strategy analysis and planning for office initiatives, and to manage office communications.
Michelle is available to meet with anyone at Gillings SPH who wants to learn more about innovation in public health, start-ups, patents/copyrights, licensing, and building industry research relationships. She is particularly interested in encouraging students to become public health innovators and in launching initiatives at Gillings to support this goal.
Michelle is also a part-time CHIP graduate student and is passionate about using data to improve healthcare outcomes.
