The Water Institute at UNC, part of the University of North Carolina Gillings School of Global Public Health, is soliciting abstracts for poster and platform presentations for the upcoming conference, “Water and Health: Where Science Meets Policy,” to be held Oct. 3-7, 2011, in Chapel Hill, N.C.The deadline for submitting abstracts is April 30. The conference is co-sponsored by the Water Institute at UNC and the UNC Institute for the Environment.
One of the features that made the 2010 conference a major success, according to Jamie Bartram, PhD, director of the Water Institute at UNC and professor of environmental sciences and engineering at the public health school, was the balance of oral and poster presentations with workshops and networking events. The blend of presentations and interactive events also is scheduled for this year. Among sessions confirmed for the 2011 conference are:
Groups interested in hosting an event at the conference are encouraged to submit requests now. Meeting space is limited. “The 2010 conference brought together over 400 people from more than 40 countries to address critical concerns facing drinking water, sanitation, hygiene and water resources,” Bartram said. “In 2011, we’ll address these issues from an interdisciplinary perspective spanning science, policy, human rights, practice, financing and economics. We will have individuals and experts from academia, industry, NGOs, government and foundations to discuss critical concerns relevant to both the developing and developed worlds.” For more information on the conference, see http://whconference.unc.edu.
